Nottingham City of Football

A three-year project from Sport England to encourage participation in a sport from communities often marginalised from it...

What we did

In 2014 Nottingham was crowned by Sport England as the UK City of Football. Thus began a 3-year challenge to look at football in various different ways.

The brief for this project was not to appeal to those who already had an interest in football. It was to reach out to marginalised communities to see if they could be encouraged to adopt our national game as a new form of exercise. This included females, mature people, LGBTQ+ and those with physical and mental disabilities. The idea was to try things, detail our experiences and take it back to Sport England to see if any of the things that worked could be rolled out further.

In particular this project helped herald a new dawn in women’s football. We worked alongside female footballers like Alex Greenwood and Ellen White, who were both in England’s 2022 European Championship-winning squad.

Our role on the project was to:

  • Create and design all marketing assets, including their branding and logos
  • To design, build and populate their website with all articles and assets
  • To film and edit all of their promotional videos
  • Much more besides
